Factual summary
Made for paragraph (i) of Art. 4(1) of the Corporate Tax Law, it exempts from Corporate Tax international or regional sports governing bodies recognised by the Ministry of Sports, the local Competent Authority, the International Olympic Committee, the International Paralympic Committee or the Olympic Council of Asia, together with the sports and ancillary entities they wholly own and control. The exemption requires that the entity conducts no Business beyond its objectives, uses its income and assets only for them and does not pass them to private persons other than listed bodies. An entity that fails a condition loses Exempt Person status from the start of that Tax Period.
What it means in practice Professional insight
Who: international sports federations and their UAE subsidiaries and support entities. What to check: recognition by one of the listed bodies, full ownership and control by the International Sports Entity, the use of income and assets, and the documents the FTA may request, with effect from 1 June 2023.
Key provisions
